Our History

Lighthouse Baptist Church was originally formed as Newberry Baptist Mission on January 30, 1976, by eighteen charter members (listed below). The charter members met in homes until they made arrangements to rent the Mollohon Union Hall and until land on Dixie Drive at Player Street could be purchased and a church building could be built. Land was purchased by the congregation on June 6, 1976. The church was renamed Newberry Bible Church in May of 1977, and later named Lighthouse Baptist Church of Newberry County by the congregation in March of 1978 and was officially incorporated in 1979. The congregation moved into the new church building at 1717 Dixie Drive in April of 1978.
