The Gospel
The Good News

I Corinthians 15:1 states, “Moreover brethren, I declare unto you the gospel.” The
word “gospel” literally means “good news!” The greatest need of every person is to hear
the good news of the Bible and to act upon it accordingly. In a nutshell, the gospel is
“that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and
that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” (I Corinthians 15:3,4).
“Our sins”, the Bible says all have sinned (Romans 3:23) “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Every person is a sinner by nature, and his sin separates him from a sinless perfect God.
“Died”, The Bible says the penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23a
“For the wages of sin is death…” This means that, before a holy God, we have earned death because of our sins. The Bible tells us that death is more than physical. Revelation 20:14 says, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” The penalty for sin is an eternity in the lake of fire!

“Christ”, The Bible says Jesus Christ, God’s Son paid the penalty for our sin. Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God commended His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus Christ, the God of heaven, came to earth, took upon Himself a human form, died upon a cross, and rose bodily from the grave. His death paid man’s sin debt and bridged the gap between man and God so that man might be saved. God’s son Jesus Christ “bore our sins in his own body on the tree”. The Bible says Salvation can only come as a gift from God. Romans 6:23b says, “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Salvation cannot come by man’s goodness or works since everyone has sinned. Because of God’s
great love, He offers free salvation through Jesus Christ.
The Bible says that faith is the key. (Ephesians 2:8,9)
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of
God: not of works: lest any man should boast.”
True faith requires THREE things:
*Believe that Jesus is God and that He has provided salvation for you by His death.
(John 1:1,14; John 3:36)
*Repent of your sins and be willing, with God’s help to forsake them. (Acts 3:19; Luke
13:3)
*Depend on Jesus Christ alone for your salvation. Pray and ask Christ to forgive your
sin and to save you. (Romans 10:9,10,13; John 1:12)
What is your response to the gospel?

God the Holy Spirit is seeking to convict you of your sin (John 16:7-11). The Lord
Jesus Christ is seeking to draw you to Himself (John 12:32). Will you now respond by
repenting and believing or trusting in Christ alone for your salvation?
